Description

Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' is native to South America. The fast-growing, undemanding aquarium plant likes soft to medium-hard water. The 3 to 10 cm high ground cover is suitable for the foreground or midground of aquariums.

Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' develops long shoots, but because it grows in a creeping manner, it does not get very tall and can therefore be used as a ground cover in the foreground. It can also be used to create a relaxed effect in the midground. It can also be attached to roots or rocks and allowed to "spill" down a slope to create an eye-catching effect in your aquascape.

The shoots of Micranthemum sp. 'Montecarlo' grow roots from the stem nodes from which a new plant eventually forms. To multiply, simply cut off the thin stems and re-plant them with tweezers.

The very fine-leaved, light green pearl herb Micranthemum tweediei 'Montecarlo' grows well in soft to medium-hard water. Along with a good supply of nutrients, additional CO2 is necessary for compact growth and vibrant colours. It tends to display low and compact growth in medium to strong light while in low light conditions, it tends to grow higher.

The plants are grown in-vitro in sterile conditions in a laboratory. They are therefore also suitable for sensitive animals such as dwarf shrimps and can be used immediately. In-vitro plants do not harbour pests such as snails or parasites. No pesticides are used.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Micranthemum tweediei 'Monte Carlo' grows into a very dense carpet in the foreground. It requires regular pruning to prevent it from growing too dense. Once the carpet gets too dense, ti can start to float which is undesirable.
