Tropica Eleocharis parvula

The easy-to-care-for Eleocharis parvula from Australia and New Zealand is also known as Eleocharis pusilla in the trade. It likes soft to hard water. The grass plant, which grows to a height of 3 to approx. 5 cm, really comes into its own in the foreground of the aquarium.

The fine light green stalks of Eleocharis parvula grow archingly overhanging. The plants grow to a height of only 3 to 5 cm and are therefore ideal as foreground plants and lawn plants in a nano aquarium.

Eleocharis parvula reproduces quite quickly via runners. This quickly results in a really beautiful and dense lawn in the foreground of the aquarium. The runners can be cut off with sharp scissors and replanted. This is best done with tweezers because the young plants are so small.

Eleocharis parvula grows very well in soft and medium-hard water. CO2 fertilisation is not necessary but promotes good growth. Under medium light the plants grow a little taller, under strong light the dwarf needle sedge grows compact and low. From time to time you have to thin out the lawn thoroughly because the ledge tends to overgrow itself in several layers.
