Description
Ammonia Alert® is an intelligent device that continuously detects and monitors free ammonia levels in freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The device has a smart sensor that reversibly changes colour depending on the level of ammonia and thus informs the user about the values.
Ammonia Alert® lasts for approximately 1 year. It is not recommended for use if the pH is acidic. No additional test kits or chemicals are needed if using Ammonia Alert®. Sampling is not necessary.
Tip: Just 0.02 mg/L of free ammonia produces a greenish hue on the detector surface. This corresponds to a total ammonia of 0.25 mg/L in seawater at pH 8.3. In fresh water at pH 7.0 this corresponds to 3.6 mg/L total ammonia.
What the colours mean:
► YELLOW – Safe: < 0.02 mg/L ammonia
Nothing needs to be done as the values are within the tolerance range.
► GREEN – Alert: 0.05 mg/L
The ammonia concentration can be tolerated for 3 to 5 days, it is definitely worth keeping an eye on the values!
The sensor displays a greenish hue even when dry. It takes a few days for the sensor to get wet and record the values.
► BLUE – Alarm! 0.2 mg/L
The ammonia concentration can be tolerated for 1 to 3 days. Change the water soon.
► VIOLET – Toxic!!! 0.5 mg/L
Immediate action is required. Change the water immediately or treat with AmGuard™ to quickly eliminate ammonia.
Note: A water change should be considered for all colours except YELLOW which is safe.
Tips for care:
- No special care is required. It is recommended to remove algae from the device regularly with a clean soft material.
- Do not touch the sensor with your fingers as skin oils could damage it.
- The sensor does not need to be cleaned. Cleaning products, soap, etc. could permanently discolour it.
- For maximum sensitivity, the device should be read in natural daylight or simulated daylight.
- To check whether the device is intact, hold it over the mouth of an ammonia bottle briefly - the colour should develop quickly.
