Description

Staurogyne repens or creeping staurogyne is a stem plant from South America and requires some attention. But it will thank you by developing into a beautiful carpet or compact bushes. Its foliage is bright to medium green and will reach a maximum height of 10cm. It does well in soft to medium-hard water. An ideal candidate for creative aquascaping ideas!

It is considered a newcomer by aquarists but enjoys great popularity because of its varied shapes. When pruned regularly, it grows into distinctive carpets. If they are allowed to grow taller, they will develop into well-structured bush groupings. But even in bush form, regular pruning will encourage its instinct to branch out densely.

As far as what it needs to grow well - CO2, plant nutrients and enough light! Under ideal conditions, it will grow bushy with intensely-coloured foliage. If there is not enough light, it will suffer from etiolation and send out thin, long shoots. Medium to strong light makes the leaf nodes grow at shorter intervals and ensures compact growth. No need to worry if you prune it too hard - the creeping staurogyne reacts better to extreme pruning than other plants and will grow back slowly.

Tip: Cut off shoots are great for propagation. Simply insert a few centimetres into the aquarium gravel or soil with tweezers. Roots will form quickly and develop into new, young plants.

Note: The cups are grown in the laboratory. Aquatic plants from in vitro culture are grown under sterile conditions. They are therefore also suitable for sensitive animals such as dwarf shrimp and can be used immediately. With in vitro plants, there are no stowaways such as snails or parasites, and pesticides are also completely avoided.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
Staurogyne repens is a real asset to creative aquascaping in aquariums. The attractive stem plant works particularly well in the foreground and middle ground and reacts well when pruned.
