Description
The easy-to-care-for Brazilian pennywort Hydrocotyle leucocephala comes from South America. The fast-growing aquarium plant likes soft to medium-hard water. The 3 to 15 cm high ground cover plant really comes into its own in the foreground or middle ground of the aquarium.
The fast-growing Brazilian pennywort, Hydrocotyle leucocephala, has a creeping habit. Its shoots can become quite long, the round leaves with the slightly wavy edge sit on short stems. The plant grows prone and is only 3 to 10 cm high. You can plant the Brazilian pennywort or just let it float freely in the aquarium. It is ideal as a creeper for a jungle layout in the aquarium or as a loosening plant in the foreground to the middle ground.
The long, prostrate shoots of Hydrocotyle leucocephala form roots at the stem nodes from which a new plant grows. You can simply separate and plant them.
Hydrocotyle leucocephala grows beautifully in soft to medium-hard water. CO2 is useful for compact growth and great colours, as well as a good supply of nutrients and especially iron. The Brazilian pennywort grows nice and compact under medium to strong light.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
With the Brazilian pennywort Hydrocotyle leucocephala you can, for example, green a mat filter or an aquarium back wall. The plant can even grow above the water surface. The immersed shoots bloom white.
