Since reptiles are cold-blooded animals, they depend on the ambient temperature to warm their bodies. In their natural environment, they are able to regulate their need for warmth on their own without much effort. When they need warmth, they head to spots that are in direct sunlight or have been warmed by the sun (e.g. stones or branches). If they are too warm, they retreat to the shade. In a terrarium, on the other hand, these spots have to be provided for them - there is no natural way for them to seek out heat or shelter from heat and their body temperature must be regulated with the help of external sources.

Exo Terra's Thermostat is the ideal accessory for keeping your retiles healthy and happy in a manner that is appropriate for the species. The thermostat is equipped with a dimming and heating function (with timer) and creates a heating system that covers the heat needs of your terrarium animals. The set temperature values are kept under strict control by the thermostat and prevent temperature fluctuations that could lead to overhating or overcooling the terrarium dwellers. The thermostat also allows day and night temperatures to be set separately.

The thermostat has an LCD display which shows both the temperature settings and the current temperature in the terrarium. The brightness of the display is automatically increased during the day and reduced in the dark. The heating symbol and a red LED lamp let you know that the device is heating. When the selected temperature is reached, the red light turns off and turns blue. The heating symbol also disappears. The built-in light sensor enables automatic switching from day to night temperature settings. A button system on the thermostat prevents accidental, unwanted changes in temperature settings. A waterproof remote sensor enables use even in humid environments.

Any of Exo Terra's heat sources (substrate heaters, heat cables, radiant heaters, heat lamps) can be connected to the thermostat thanks to a heat sensor . To do this, the desired temperature must be set and the heat sensor placed properly.
