Carbon: the basis of plant life
Plants consist predominantly of carbon. CO₂ is a crucial nutrient necessary for photosynthesis during which plants produce sugars using CO₂, water and light. At the same time, they also release oxygen which is essential for all living organisms.

Natural CO₂ levels are often too low in aquariums, resulting in slow plant growth and low oxygen levels for fish and shrimp. This also increases the risk of algae formation. Healthy aquatic plants are the best defence against algae.

Regular addition of CO₂ creates the basis for healthy plant growth with strong leaves and vibrant colours. Plants produce more oxygen, improve water quality and prevent algae growth.

CO₂ production
Carbon is produced in a natural biochemical reaction. Specially selected microorganisms in combination with Dennerle's CO2 Constant Gel ensure a constant amount of CO₂ per filling for at least 40 days.

CO₂ production by conventional organic CO₂ systems using household sugar is often irregular. Although production starts quickly, it drops sharply after a few days with too much CO₂ at the beginning and too little later. Therefore they are less suitable for aquariums.
