Description

Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' is a favourite of many aquascaping fans: compact ground pads or turf formation without proliferation make this pearlwort an attractive decorative plant of appealing underwater gardens. The distinctive plant originates from Argentina and grows mainly in the shore areas of flowing waters on stony substrates. It is not very difficult to cultivate; however, good light conditions and a CO2 supplement are advantageous for optimal development. Regular water changes are a prerequisite - because clear, clean water is a must-have for the plant.

Its growth height is between 3 and 5cm, it grows moderately as a bottom creeper without proliferating and is therefore also ideally suited for nano aquariums. Its small, rounded leaves are extremely decorative as a carpet, making it ideal for planting on flat foregrounds and middle grounds - a plus for active designers! It appreciates temperatures between 16 and 28°C, the pH value should remain between 6.5 and 7.5, soft to medium-hard water and very good to intense light are part of the optimal environment, which results in rich colours and dense bottom growth. It also thrives in light shade, but then it quickly looks puny and shoots up. If possible, a supply of CO2 is highly recommended. A regular water change for permanently crystal clear, clean water is a must-do, as is a sufficient supply of nutrients!

Note: The cups are grown in the laboratory. Aquatic plants from the so-called in vitro culture are grown sterilely. They are therefore also suitable for sensitive animals such as dwarf shrimps and can be used immediately. In vitro plants have no stowaways such as snails or parasites, and pesticides are not used at all.

Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
The carpet of Monte Carlo periwinkle usually grows very densely in the foreground. Careful thinning from time to time prevents the plant from stealing its own light and carpet parts from starting to float up.
