Description
'Heteranthera zosterifolia' is a rediscovered classic aquatic plant. Once extremely popular, this beautiful, fast-growing stem plant gradually disappeared from sale. It looks very attractive in the middle and background, especially in group plantings. The brighter it is, the happier it is. If the light is too intense, however, it will need more frequent, careful pruning which will result in dense branching. Regularly supplementing it with nutrients is essential. In open tanks, shoots on the water surface often develop small blue flowers that stick out of the water. A reliable indicator of nitrogen deficiency is if its leaves become transparent before wilting.
- Light requirements: good to intense
- Optimum temperature: 10 to 30°C - very tolerant
- Water values: soft to hard - tolerant
- ph value: 5 to 8 - tolerant
- CO2 and nutrient addition: highly recommended
- Emergent growth possible
- Propagation: cuttings (side shoots)
Note: The cups are grown in a lab. Aquatic plants grown in an in-vitro culture are sterile. They are therefore also suitable for sensitive animals such as dwarf shrimp and can be used immediately. In-vitro plants do not harbour snails or parasites. No pesticides are used.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
This unique stem plant is an interesting way to add some green to open aquariums and paludariums. As it thrives in suitable light conditions, it can be used to create exciting background scenery that grows above the water surface as well.
