Description
The easy-to-maintain Pearl plant Micranthemum umbrosum is native to South America. The fast-growing aquarium plant likes soft to medium-hard water. The 3 to approx. 15 cm high groundcover plant comes into its own in the foreground or middle ground of the aquarium.
Although the good-growing Micranthemum umbrosum forms quite long shoots, because it grows in a creeping manner, it is still not very high and can, therefore, be used in the foreground as ground cover. Even in the middle ground, you can create really great, loose effects. You can even attach it to roots or stones and let it grow overhanging - and add a great and extraordinary effect to your aquascape or plant aquarium.
The lower shoots of Micranthemum umbrosum drive roots through the stalk nodes, which then form a new plant. To multiply, you simply cut off the thin stems and reposition them with tweezers.
It grows very well in soft to medium-hard water. CO2, along with a good supply of nutrients, is necessary for a compact growth and great colours. Under medium to strong light, it grows beautifully low and compact, under low light it tends to rise.
It comes in a sterile cup from the laboratory. This aquarium plant was bred from cell cultures and is therefore in pristine condition. Also, it does not bring any pests, parasites or pathogens and you can use it directly in the aquarium, even if you have sensitive aquarium dwellers such as dwarf shrimp.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
The umbrosum periwinkle grows in the foreground into a very dense carpet. You should thin it out from time to time, so that the plant does not steal the light itself. If the carpet is too thick, it can float, and we do not want that.
