Description
The somewhat more sophisticated, very attractive dwarf pearl Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba' comes from South America. The slow to medium-fast growing aquarium plant likes soft to hard water. The 3 to approx. 5 cm high ground cover plant really comes into its own in the foreground of the aquarium and can even be tied on.
The pretty light green Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba' is the smallest stem plant in the world. The short shoots with the small, almost round, light green leaves make it a great ground cover for the foreground. For planting, divide the portion into smaller pieces. It has very fine stems that can be challenging to plant individually without damaging. It is easiest if you use tweezers to plant the small sections.
The very small-leaved plant grows great in soft to hard water. For a good development and compact growth, it definitely needs a supply of CO2 and medium to strong light. Then it can grow nicely along the substrate and will remain compact.
Our expert Oliver Knott recommends:
If the short roots do not want to stick to the bottom of your aquarium, you can either put a layer of finer powder over the soil (if you use soil) in which the fine roots can hold on better - or you can bind the plant completely on a flat little stone. From this fixed anchor it can then anchor your aquarium floor in peace.
